Questions about BOTOX® Treatment

  1.  ......... Now I think I may have been cheated and paid £300 for three areas. I am not sure of the dosage!
  2. How to get rid of "angry look" on my face?
  3. What areas of my face can I get Botox injected?
  4. I have crinkles under my eye.  The crinkles come when I smile, so I realize that it is my cheeks that are pushing into the eye area and cause the crinkles to form. I have heard that some doctors will put botox under the eye, is this possible?
  5. I got both Botox and dermal filler before finding out that I was pregnant for 4 weeks. Would this effect the unborn baby?

I received Botox three months ago. Now I think I may have been cheated and paid £300 for three areas.  I my forehaed and between my eyes were still moving.  The lient was not sure of the dosage

What is the average amount of units needed for this? Read more........

Botox is quite simple, quick, and effective. It takes a few minutes. It does require an treatment every 3-4 months. Some patients have been known to have effect for 6 months. It is very safe, especially in the area between the eyes

For aesthetic purposes, BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved for the treatment of glabella lines (frown lines between the eyebrows) and is also commonly used to prevent or treat horizontal lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes.

Using my advanced knowledge of facial anatomy, I am also able to perform BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments into less common sites to create a

  1. mini-browlift,
  2. lips (smokers lines)
  3. relax vertical neck muscle bands
  4. gummy smile
  5. jaw lines
  6. "Bunny lines" on the sides of the nose
  7. Nasal flare reduction
  8. Lifting up the corners of the mouth
  9. Tightening the jawline.
  10. Decreasing the "orange peel" appearance of the chin
  11. Lessening the appearance of neck bands

Botox can be injected under the eye, to decrease activity of the infraorbital orbicularis muscle. Such treatment can be useful in younger individuals.

Botox injections in this area can cause problems for older individuals, those who have undergone surgery beneath the eye, those with a large amount of redundant skin beneath the eye and individuals with a history of dry eyes (can make it worse).

For individuals who are good candidates for injection under the eyes, I usually limit the dose to 2-3 units per side.

After carefully evaluating the areas of your concern, appropriately placed

Botox will help reduce the wrinkles that are bothering you when you smile.

If you are a candidate, properly placed Juvederm in the lower eye lid hollows will smooth the transition between the "bags" and the cheek, giving you a natural and youthful appearance. TEAR TROUGH bags under the eyes, Juvederm to fill in the valleys and disguise the bags.

Botox will help in younger adults. This is a very delicate area because of the thin eyelid skin. At the outer corners the crows feet are easily treated. Under the eyes a tiny amount of Botox can relax things and sometimes even make the eye open wider if desired.

Some will respond to Botox under the eyes in the lower eyelid with swelling under the eyes making the bags look worse.

These are advanced techniques.

This is nearly impossible to quantify.

We absolutely do not recommend BOTOX when you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. However, it is not so uncommon to find out that a BOTOX treatment occurred after conception. There is no evidence that this makes any difference for the developing fetus. However, it is a common thing to worry about .

Overall, there is very little evidence to suggest that Botox, in the doses used for your cosmetic improvement, would have any detrimental or long term effects on the development of the fetus. Of course you should discuss this with your obstetrician. Be rest assured that Botox has a relatively high safety profile.

Botox for 10 years younger look!

Indications
BOTOX® is injected into muscles and used:

  • to treat the abnormal head position and neck pain that happens with cervical dystonia (CD) in adults
  • to treat certain types of eye muscle problems (strabismus) or abnormal spasm of the eyelids (blepharospasm

BOTOX® is also used to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating (severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) .

SAFETY INFORMATION:
BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems after treatment with BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic:

  • Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing. These problems can happen hours to weeks after an injection of BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic, usually because the muscles that you use to breathe and swallow can become weak after the injection. Death can happen as a complication if you have severe problems with swallowing or breathing after treatment with BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic
  • Swallowing problems may last for several months. People who already have swallowing or breathing problems before receiving BOTOX® or BOTOX® Cosmetic have the highest risk of getting these problems
  • Spread of toxin effects. In some cases, the effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas of the body away from the injection site and cause symptoms of a serious condition called botulism. The symptoms of botulism include: loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice (dysphonia), trouble saying words clearly (dysarthria), loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, and
    trouble swallowing

IN THE NEWS:

Botox clinics told to tighten up on safety

Beauty parlours and clinics providing Botox treatments and "filler" injections to plump up lips or smooth sagging skin are to be controlled for the first time in an attempt to drive out "rogue" practitioners.

Only doctors, dentists and nurses will be invited to apply for registration, which will allow them to present a certificate of approval to prospective patients as evidence of the safety and quality of their service. Organisations that provide the service will also be able to apply.

Botox is one of the best known and popular non-surgical treatments for treating lines and wrinkles caused by smiling, laughing and frowning.  It is used to prevent the muscle contractions that cause furrows and fine lines when the face is in motion.

At St Mellion & Exeter Clinics all our anti-ageing injectable treatments are carried out by a cosmetic doctor who is highly trained and experienced in the art of facial aesthetics. In his experienced hands Botox is used in an artistic way to restore a relaxed and more youthful appearance to the face, lending a subtle lift to the brows.

Botox Regulations Toughened by GMC

The General Medical Council (GMC) has published a new document concerning the use of botox which is aimed at recuding medical complications that occur as a result of a popular trend called ‘botox parties’.

The GMC’s ‘Good Practice in Prescribing Medicines’ guidance has been amended to target improperly performed botox procedures that do not meet supply and administration requirements, especially if a medical doctor is not present during the procedure.

Before the release of the amended document, doctors have been able to prescribe botox to groups of people, which enabled a nurse to perform the procedure on a group of people without them needing to see a doctor. However, from now on prescriptions of botox and other non-surgical cosmetic treatments will have to be “patient specific”, according to a GMC spokesman.

“The doctor must know the patient’s medical history or have for example seen a photo of the patient,” he added. “This is because the treatment is delivered by injection and the doctor needs to be able to assess where (for example on the face) the injection is needed and where it should not be administered.”

Patients are recommended to only address reputable cosmtic surgery clinics at all times to receive botox injections and should strictly avoid alcohol consumption in botox parties.

DID YOU KNOW

By 1973, Alan B. Scott, MD, of Smith-Kettlewell Institute used botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) in monkey experiments, and, in 1980, he officially used BTX-A for the first time in humans to treat strabismus, a condition in which the eyes are not properly aligned with each other.

The possibility of using botox as a therapeutic agent was carried out in the early 1980’s, by groups of university-based ophthalmologists scattered throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. By 1985 a scientific protocol of injection sites and dosage had been empirically determined for treatment of blepharospasm (BLE) and strabismus. Side effects had been evaluated and were deemed to be rare, mild and treatable. The beneficial effects of the injection lasted only 4-6 months, so that BLE patients had to return to the clinics for re-injection two or three times a year.
